Supporting parents of children with learning problems in Soweto full service schools.

Nancy Mabaso defended her doctoral proposal on the problem of schools supporting caregivers and parents who have children with neuro-developmental learning problems in full service schools in Soweto. Working from an African systemic social context, a mixed methods study will be conducted. Initially quantitative data will be collected from schools focusing on the school processes of parental support. In the second phase qualitative interviews will be conducted with teachers and parents who have participated in the training programme. This study will contribute practically to the development of a training programme that school support teams could implement with parents in order to strengthen school-caregiver partnerships in supporting children with learning problems.
